Jamie originates from the Dallas Metroplex, but regards east Texas as her home. She went to high school in the small town of Athens, TX, but returned to the Dallas area to attend college. She studied art with a concentration in fashion design at the University of North Texas in Denton. She found that she received a lot of pleasure and satisfaction when working with her hands to create something beautiful, unique, and artistic.
She relocated to Austin in 2006, deciding that she still wanted to pursue artistry, but at the same time fulfill a practical need in the lives of those around her. It was then that she made the decision to try a new kind of art - hair art. She attended Nuvani Institute - a Sebastian Partner School - where she received an extensive education in the mechanics of cut, color, and style. Her main focal points encompassed functionality and presentation. She is trained in the use of Wella Koleston Perfect color and Redken Shades, but has attended several classes exploring Chi color by Farouk Systems and Pravana as well.
She is enthusiastic to have found a home at Urban Betty; a salon she feels has kept true to that Austin vibe of funky and chic yet laid back. She loves doing color/highlights and short, edgy cuts, but also is partial to shaping long, luscious locks. In the realm of hair design she has fallen in love with the way that hair can completely change a person, not only on the outside, but on the inside as well.
